Suspected smuggler dies in Frio County accident
Express-News -

A Laredo man suspected of smuggling unauthorized immigrants died Tuesday morning after he lost control of his vehicle during a high-speed pursuit by Frio County sheriff's deputies.

Javier Raul Munoz, 41, was traveling north on Interstate 35 south of Pearsall about 1:35 a.m. with a load of six to eight immigrants when sheriff's deputies began to pursue him, said Sheriff Lionel Treviño.
Munoz then stopped, let off his passengers, crossed the highway median and began to head south on the interstate access road at speeds over 100 mph, Treviño said. He ran several stop signs, almost hitting a tanker truck, before he lost control at milepost 96, he said.

Munoz was ejected from the vehicle. The stolen 2002 Ford Explorer he was driving rolled over him and he died at the scene, Treviño said.
