EDINBURG — A Hidalgo County justice of the peace convicted of official oppression for sending truant teens to county jail was ordered to pay $8,000 in fines and sentenced to 60 days under community supervision.
Judge Mary Alice Palacios, 51, had no comment as family and friends ushered her out of the state district courtroom following the verdict.
Her attorney, Fernando Mancias, said the full details of her probation would be worked out when she returns to court in April. He said she was for now eager to get back to work.
