Jury told of signs cop was intoxicated
Prosecutors say he refused to cooperate on sobriety tests.By Craig Kapitan - Express-News
Soon after running into a highway median and flipping his unmarked San Antonio Police Department vehicle, officer Winder Amedalio Morales showed signs he was intoxicated — including an unwillingness to cooperate — prosecutors said Tuesday as his drunken driving trial began.
“You're going to see the defendant is incredibly evasive,” Assistant District Attorney Katie Magee told jurors in County Court-at-Law No. 9, explaining that Morales refused field sobriety and breath tests. “The defendant doesn't even look the officer in the eye.”
Morales, 34, resigned from the department in January 2010, two months after the one-vehicle, early morning wreck on U.S. 90 West near South Gen. McMullen Drive.
