Sutton faces felonies sentence
By Zeke MacCormack - Express-News KERRVILLE — Retired Hill Country prosecutor Ron Sutton pleaded guilty Monday to two felonies related to spending forfeited funds on bonuses for his staff and sending himself and others to legal conferences.
“I didn't realize at the time that I was doing anything wrong,” Sutton, district attorney in the 198th judicial district from 1976 to 2009, said after the 30-minute hearing.
He'd previously defended as legal his use of the forfeiture account that topped $1 million due mainly to seizures from suspected drug couriers in Kimble County.
