Veteran San Antonio family lawyer Solomon Casseb III, 60, said Tuesday that he's accepted an offer by Gov. Rick Perry to fill the judicial vacancy in the 288th District created when Lori Massey retired in October to private practice.
It runs in the family for Casseb, a Republican whose father, Solomon Casseb Jr., was a Democrat who served as a district judge here in the 1960s.
“He was actually quite elated when I told him,” Casseb said of his father, a senior judge who's 93

and lives in Laredo.
The younger Casseb is a graduate of Lee High School and the University of Texas Law School. The father of three, he'll stand for election in 2010.
Casseb said with the bulging caseload in Bexar County, the governor's office preferred he start, “sooner rather than later,” in the civil court.
