Victoria to get Barrios trial
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News

The teen accused of killing well-known San Antonio restaurateur Viola Barrios will have his capital murder trial heard in Victoria next year, a judge announced Wednesday.

State District Judge Maria Teresa Herr's decision to move the trial more than 100 miles to the southeast came nearly three weeks after she granted Joe Estrada Jr.'s request for a change of venue. Estrada's attorneys argued the prevalent media attention given to Barrios' slaying last year would have prevented Estrada from having a fair trial in Bexar County.

After learning of Herr's decision Wednesday, Estrada's lawyers expressed concern. They said they remained unsure if they would be able to find an impartial jury in Victoria County as well. Victoria, a town of 61,000 residents and about two hours from Bexar County, may still be too close, they claimed.
