17-year-old recovering after shooting

  -

A New Braunfels teenager remained hospitalized Monday after he was shot twice in the leg late Saturday night off of E. Common Street.

Police have not released the identity of a 17-year-old male who was shot at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday following a confrontation near a home in the 1900 block of Club Crossing, east of downtown near the intersection with Common.

The victim was still being treated Monday at University Hospital in San Antonio, although his condition is not believed to be life-threatening, according to New Braunfels Police Department Lt. Mike Penshorn.

Witnesses told police the teen was shot after a confrontation with someone at 1900 Club Crossing just before midnight.

Those witnesses then drove him to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital — New Braunfels, and he was later transported to San Antonio because of the severity of his injuries, police said.

No suspects had been identified Monday. Penshorn said police were pursuing possible leads and that the case was under investigation.

It was the second shooting in New Braunfels over the past five months.

A 28-year-old man was wounded in November 2009 after he was shot on Guenther Avenue, across the street from New Braunfels Middle School.

His identity was never released, and an arrest was never made.
