Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane said the robbery occurred approximately 12:03 a.m. at the Giant store, 921 E. Main St., Cortez.

A Montezuma County Sheriff's Office Deputy reported stopping at the store to make a purchase when he noticed a masked subject in dark clothes standing near the counter apparently yelling at the clerk, a complaint filed by the officer stated. The man allegedly appeared to have a handgun in his hand, demanding money while the other suspect allegedly gathered cigarettes. The clerk was reportedly ordered to the ground.
