Police arrested a suspect Tuesday over the stabbing and killing of a man at his South Side home on Monday, officials said.

Timothy Gaffney, 40, was arrested and charged with capital murder in the death of Jesse Tober Jr. His bail for that charge was set at $100,000. He also was held on two out-of-county warrants for probation violations. For those charges, he was remanded without bail.

Tober, 63, called authorities Monday to report someone who had gone inside his home in the 4400 block of Pleasanton Road and stabbed him, police said. When officers arrived, they found Tober standing in the doorway of his home, where he collapsed moments later.
