Are we going to have room in the to house all of these absconders until trial?
Something needs to be done and this will get folks to talking about it hopefully.
Bexar County Clerk Gerard “Gerry” Rickhoff has an idea — to offer cash rewards to locate fugitives in driving-while-intoxicated cases — and has shared it with other officials in the past few weeks, but it has yet to gain much traction.
After missing their court dates, more than 1,800 people are wanted on outstanding local DWI warrants, some of which are more than 15 years old, Rickhoff said.
Fugitives can become repeat DWI offenders, and some cause fatal crashes, he said, adding, “These intoxicated manslaughter arrests begin with your first DWI.”
