Thank you Mary McKinney!

Thank you for your most generous gift to the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Ex-teacher gives $22 Million to UTSA
By Melissa Ludwig - Express-News

The University of Texas at San Antonio has received the largest gift in its 40-year history, a $22 million scholarship endowment from the estate of Mary E. McKinney, a former schoolteacher and savvy investor who inherited 5,200 acres of oil-rich South Texas ranchland from her parents.

McKinney, who died in November at age 79, was not an alumna of UTSA. A lifelong learner, McKinney took a few classes at UTSA in the 1990s.

One day, she overheard students in the registration line talking about how much trouble they were having paying tuition. She marched into the development office to see how she could help, eventually setting up the Felix and Elizabeth McKinney Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of her parents.
