Motorist, 74, sent to prison for DWI death

A judge on Wednesday ordered a 74-year-old drunken driver to serve 10 years in prison for a wreck two years ago that was blamed for the death two months later of an 81-year-old passenger of another vehicle.

Guadalupe Montoya apologized to state District Judge Maria Teresa Herr and to the family of Amelia Gomez as he asked instead for probation.

“I destroyed my family with this,” he said through a Spanish interpreter. “I'm a peaceful person. I've never done wrong to anyone. Forgive me.”
