Two top SAISD officials resign
By Lindsay Kastner - Express-NewsTwo top San Antonio Independent School District employees resigned after an internal investigation found that they funneled about $800,000 in federal funds to family members and others over at least three years, Superintendent Robert Durón said Monday.
Eduardo Elizondo, senior director of the federal programs department, and the department's compliance monitor, Tony Mayhan, steered a total of about $310,000 in professional development work to five companies owned by their wives, Guadalupe Elizondo and Rosemarie Mayhan, Durón said at a news conference.
In the past year alone, the district's online check registers show more than $100,000 in payments to the wives' companies.
