Judge rejects Ford's request for new murder trial
By Craig Kapitan - Express-NewsTwo months after his closely watched murder trial ended with a 40-year sentence, Alamo Heights resident Jon Thomas Ford returned to court this week — this time with a new jailhouse wardrobe, new attorneys and a request for a new trial.
After brief testimony that, due to a sick witness, was spread over two days, state District Judge Maria Teresa Herr on Wednesday briskly swatted down the request.
Herr did not give a reason for the ruling but had agreed with prosecutors that all three of the witnesses the defense attempted to call were irrelevant to a motion for new trial hearing.
