Great news!
Now here in Comal County we're waiting to hear about an extradition on Lee Roy Suarez who murdered someone, stabbed the deceased's brother, here in New Braunfels and then fled to Mexico back in 2004.
This gives me hope we will get his extradition granted.
An alleged prison gang member wanted in connection with the killing of a U.S. consulate employee, her husband and another employee's spouse has been extradited to the United States, Mexican authorities have announced.
Joel Abraham Caudillo was handed over to FBI agents Dec. 20 in Veracruz at the same time that Julian “El Piolin” Zapata Espinoza, wanted in the February killing of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata, was extradited. Mexican authorities announced Caudillo's extradition this week.
He's one of 35 people charged in a drug conspiracy case that alleges that the Barrio Azteca prison gang, working with the Juárez Cartel, engaged in drug trafficking and murder on both sides of the Rio Grande.

Okay, granted it looks like a good thing but what happens in a tropical thunderstorm?
Why don't they at least have a roof or something over it? Or is it waterproof?
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Officials in Colombia's second-largest city on Monday inaugurated a giant, outdoor escalator for residents of one of its poorest neighborhoods.
For generations, the 12,000 residents of Medellin's tough Comuna 13, which clings to the side of a steep hillside, have had to climb hundreds of large steps authorities say is the same as going up a 28-story building.
Now they can ride an escalator Medellin's mayor says is the first massive, outdoor public escalator for use by residents of a poor area.

Lucky Seven?
Or unlucky?
Well, certainly luckier than their alleged victims, anyway.
A judge Tuesday denied bond for seven purported members of the Texas Syndicate who were indicted in a racketeering case that includes four murders.
Among them was the gang's alleged chairman for its operations outside prison in San Antonio, Ruben “R.C.” Carranza, 46, who explained to U.S. Magistrate Judge John Primomo that he had been arrested in a Bexar County rape case after being released on parole from state custody.
Primomo noted it was unlikely any of the seven would get bond in the federal case since most were in state custody on other charges or facing possible parole revocations. He set their arraignments for Jan. 10.

Dogging the thieves
I doubt the dogs will be found after all this time.
But who knows?
Stranger things have happened and Ms. Riley sure seems to be very persistent.
For Peggy Riley, the theft of her two 9-year-old Yorkshire Terriers, Baxter and Cooper, is still painful to talk about. She tears up quickly at the mention of their names.
“You would think after 71/2 months I could pull myself together,” Riley says. “It's just hard not knowing where they are and if they're OK.”
Riley's dogs were stolen from inside her home during a robbery on April 22. The dogs had just returned from the groomers, so perhaps they looked like puppies to the thieves.

ZUEHL — A fence erected in 2008 beside a rural airfield here in southwest Guadalupe County has spurred a rash of lawsuits, the latest of which accuses dozens of county officials of engaging in organized crime and seeks $31 million in damages.
The defendants deny the allegations made by New Braunfels resident David Goad, whose prior self-drafted court pleadings led to his being declared a vexatious litigant.
Goad filed the newest suit in U.S. District Court on Dec. 8 on behalf of two daughters who own a 1-acre lot that once housed a fueling station used by the Zuehl Flying Community.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich’s campaign attacked Virginia’s GOP primary election system on Saturday for keeping him off the state’s March 6 Super Tuesday ballot, a significant setback for a candidate who has surged in popularity but has struggled to organize his campaign.
The state party said that Gingrich had failed to submit the required 10,000 signatures to appear on the ballot. Texas Gov. Rick Perry also failed to qualify, the Virginia GOP said.
The Gingrich campaign responded that “only a failed system” would disqualify Gingrich and other candidates. It said Gingrich would pursue an aggressive write-in campaign in Virginia.
“Voters deserve the right to vote for any top contender, especially leading candidates,” Gingrich campaign director Michael Krull said in a statement.

CINCINNATI (AP) — A 1941 fruitcake has sold for $525 to an Arizona man in an online auction and the money will be used to benefit the homeless in southwest Ohio.
Elite Estate Group sold the cake in an auction on its website that ended Thursday night. Company owner Larry Chaney said the man who bought the cake asked that his name not be released.
"I believe he probably bought it as an investment," said Chaney, adding that he doubts anyone would eat a 70-year-old fruitcake even though it was vacuum packed and contained rum that probably helped preserve it.

While dreams of Santa popping down the chimney on Christmas Eve to deliver presents were extinguished for most during childhood, a select few Bellevue residents have seen St. Nick trade in his sleigh for a mail truck.
Until now.
For more than a decade now, letter carrier Bob McLean has driven around Bellevue each holiday season, delivering a little Christmas cheer while wearing a full Santa getup for two or three days. But this year, a local grinch complained to the U.S. Postal Service, and McLean has been banned from bringing his alter ego to work this year.

Bellvue Reporter -While dreams of Santa popping down the chimney on Christmas Eve to deliver presents were extinguished for most during childhood, a select few Bellevue residents have seen St.

"Space Ball" drops on Namibia
AFP -
A large metallic ball fell out of the sky on a remote grassland in Namibia, prompting baffled authorities to contact NASA and the European space agency.
The hollow ball with a
circumference of 1.1 metres (43 inches) was found near a village in the
north of the country some 750 kilometres (480 miles) from the capital
Windhoek, according to police forensics director Paul Ludik.
Locals had heard several small explosions a few days beforehand, he said.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Police say they stole thousands of dollars in cash and goods, and then posed with their loot and posted the photos to a popular social media site.
Police say the three suspects, along with another teen, posted the photos on Facebook about an hour after they burglarized Elliott’s Town Market on Chartiers Avenue in the West End.
“We received information the day after the burglary that these pictures were posted on Facebook, and if you look at the pictures, you can see that the individuals are holding a large amount of cash,” Sgt. Kevin Gasiorowski, of the Pittsburgh Police, said.

Pa. smoke shop has Santa huff on a hookah
Associated Press -
GREENVILLE,
Pa. (AP) — A northwestern Pennsylvania tobacco shop is turning the
image of the jovial, pipe-smoking Santa on its head by having Saint Nick
huff on a hookah.
Up In Smoke store manager Sue Stoyer says that customer reaction to the display has been mixed. But she notes that many early depictions of Santa Claus have him puffing on a pipe.
Clement Moore's "A Visit from St. Nicholas" includes a reference to the jolly old elf clenching a pipe in his teeth, with a ring of smoke around his head.
The tiny town's holiday parade earlier this month made the window a source of both amusement and scorn. But Stoyer shrugs off any criticism. She says Santa's history as a smoker is on the shop's side.

What a crappy joke
What a particularly nasty prank by a particularly nasty group of mean girls.
WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Three Pennsylvania teens must clean toilets, urinals and bed pans after admitting they iced a birthday cake with feces as a prank on a high school classmate.
The Daily Local News of West Chester reports the girls were also ordered Monday to pick up dog droppings at a local park during their 200 hours of community service in return for guilty pleas stemming from the March incident at Avon Grove High School.
Authorities say the trio and a juvenile student provided school officials with written confessions after a classmate and her family was sickened by the cake.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A truck driver who won a Lamborghini worth about $300,000 in a convenience store contest crashed the sports car six hours after he got it, and he now plans to sell the 640-horsepower convertible because he can't afford the insurance or taxes.
"I already had offers on it. I'm going to sell it," David Dopp said Wednesday. "I have bills more important than a Lamborghini. I've got a family to support."
Dopp, a 34-year-old truck driver for Frito-Lay, spun out of control just a few hours after taking the keys to the Murcielago Roadster that he won in a "Joe Schmo to Lambo" contest sponsored by Maverik convenience stores.

You're a mean one Mr. Grinch!
You see this is one of the reasons I like working for Comal County. The elected officials and Department heads dug deep into their own pockets to cover the loss and help their employees enjoy the Christmas lunch.
Other counties wouldn't even have this kind of get together let alone have the folks in charge give generously to "make" the Holidays a little more fun and full of the spirit of generosity.

NEW BRAUNFELS — In a crime right out of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” burglars broke into Comal County offices on Church Hill Drive in New Braunfels and made off with a stack of wrapped presents all ready to be given out at Wednesday’s employee Christmas luncheon.
Comal County Judge Sherman Krause said the thieves not only made off with an office laptop and a Christmas gift that had been given to County Commissioner Jan Kennady, but also focused on the Christmas party gifts, which were intended as door prizes.
“It looked like they really targeted those gifts, which were all wrapped and ready to go to the Christmas party,” Krause said.

Sheriff: Ohio man cleaning gun killed Amish girl
Associated Press -
FREDERICKSBURG,
Ohio (AP) -- A man cleaning his muzzle-loading rifle shot the gun
into the air, accidentally killing a 15-year-old Amish girl driving a
horse-drawn buggy more than a mile away, a sheriff said Tuesday.
Rachel
Yoder was shot in the head Thursday night while traveling to her home
in Wayne County, between Columbus and Akron. She had attended a
Christmas party for employees, most of them under 18 years old, at an
Amish produce farm and was riding home alone when she was shot, Wayne
County sheriff's Capt. Douglas Hunter said.
The
horse continued to cart the girl after she was shot, and she fell out
of the buggy near her home, Holmes County Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly said.
Her brother found her after he saw the horse walking in circles and
went to check it. Authorities initially believed she had fallen out of
the buggy and hit her head until a hospital test revealed the gunshot
wound.

An ex-con from Universal City suspected by police of having participated in about 20 armed heists in San Antonio and surrounding communities over the past year was ordered Tuesday to serve 60 years in prison.
Melvin McNeil, 39, was alleged to be so prolific that authorities dubbed him simply “The North Side Robber.” So far, he has been indicted for 11 area robberies, and in October a jury handed him his first conviction of the bunch: for a Subway restaurant
.
Victims from several other robberies took the witness stand Tuesday and last week to identify McNeil as the culprit. If he is later convicted of the other robberies, prosecutors have indicated that they will ask for his sentences to be stacked.

The intruder dragged himself out on to a walkway and attempted to stand up, but immediately fell back down. He then dragged himself on his belly out of the school, pushing a pair of bolt cutters in front of him.
“He was trying to get on the roof of the school to commit copper theft,” said schools police Sergeant Ivan Silva. “As you can see from the video, he’s not the most skillful burglar.”
