Archbishop visits Bexar Jail
García-Siller tells inmates at Christmas Mass that God's love can absolve the worst sin. By Abe Levy - Express-News
Nearly a decade had passed since a San Antonio archbishop had visited Bexar County Jail, an imposing red-brick castle just west of downtown housing more than 3,400 inmates.
That changed Friday when San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller stopped to celebrate Christmas Mass.
The 65 male inmates in orange jumpsuits chosen for the event surrounded the archbishop in his white and purple vestments in a crowded chapel with watchful guards and narrow windows facing onto plain exterior walls.
