Murder convict gets 99 years for mistaken-identity ambush
By Craig Kapitan - Express-NewsIt took jurors slightly less than two hours Thursday to sentence a San Antonio man to 99 years in prison for a Northwest Side murder a year ago that prosecutors described as a mistaken-identity ambush.
La-John Gabriel, 20, showed no emotion as the sentence was read. He had a similar reaction last July, when a detective told him he had shot the wrong guy, prosecutor Alejandro Ballesteros told jurors during closing arguments.
“All he said was, ‘It is what it is,'” Ballesteros said of the police interview. “He didn't care.”
