Animal court rules on city pet law offenses
By Vincent T. Davis - Express-NewsEvery Friday morning, residents cited for breaking city pet laws step into animal court to have their cases heard before a judge, and depending on their plea, a jury.
The judgments take place at Municipal Court No. 4, at 401 S. Frio St., for violations that include not having license tags, severe bites and misdemeanor cruelty cases.
Recently, Michele McLaughlin sat on a long wooden bench among a dozen defendants, who except for one man held pink tickets concerning their canines. The man's citation was for not having a permit for chickens and having more than allowed in the city limits.
