S.A. man pleads to murder over wrong-way accident
By Zeke MacCormack - Express-News
A San Antonio man involved in a fatal wrong-way crash four years ago has pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, Medina County District Attorney Daniel Kindred said.
He said Gilbert Yanez, 40, began serving the term last week. The Dec. 4, 2009, collision on Interstate 35 in Medina County killed Celso Rodriguez, 60, of Irving, and injured another man.
Noting Yanez had two prior DWI convictions in Bexar County, Kindred said in prepared statement that he sought the murder indictment because, “We must do everything we can to protect our community and send a clear message that drunk drivers will be held responsible.”
