Lost on the way

A terrible death and terrible news to her family.

We really need to implement a guest worker program here and try to also help those seeking to move here.

For the past four months, Esther Zaruma Nivelo's family had waited for word.

They hadn't heard from her since October, when with about 1,700 miles left to go, the end of her more than 6,000-mile trek from her small village in Ecuador to her husband in New Jersey appeared to be in sight.

The date she left her two sons and small immediate family in El Tambor in Canar, Ecuador wasn't clear; but Nivelo had set out on what was known to be a dangerous journey for those who try entering the United States illegally.
