Boy, 10, arrested in Burbank for pointing gun at woman
CBSLosAngeles -

BURBANK (CBS) — A 10-year-old boy was arrested Sunday after reportedly pointing a toy gun at a woman who believed it was a real weapon.

The boy knocked on the front door of the woman’s house and allegedly pointed the plastic gun at a 67-year-old woman who answered the door, according to the Burbank Leader. The boy picked the house because the woman’s grandson reportedly beat up his friend at school, Burbank police Lt. John Dilibert told the paper.

The boy yelled “you suck” at the woman while pointing the gun at her, then running away, Dilibert said.

Cooperative defendant draws 15-year term
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News

A San Antonio man whose testimony at his two co-defendants' murder trials helped prosecutors obtain 144 years in combined sentences received his own punishment Monday.

Dominque Lenzy, 25, was ordered by state District Judge Juanita Vasquez-Gardner to serve 15 years in prison for a reduced charge of aggravated assault connected to the July 2009 shooting death of Jimmy Arizah Wilson, 33. He was killed outside a Northeast Side apartment complex.

It was the maximum sentence allowable under a plea agreement reached with prosecutors. Lenzy asked the judge for deferred adjudication probation.

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) — Police in northern Mexico have captured an alleged member of the Zetas drug gang who confessed to killing at least 75 people, including many who were pulled off buses, authorities said Monday.

Enrique Elizondo Flores told investigators 36 of his victims were bus passengers traveling through the town of Cerralvo, near the border with Texas, said Nuevo Leon state security spokesman Jorge Domene.

Elizondo was detained Jan. 20 in the town of Salinas Victoria, but authorities delayed announcing his arrest so they could verify details of his confession, state Attorney General Adrian de la Garza said.

By Dalondo Moultrie New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung

NEW BRAUNFELS — A Comal County judge on Monday gave a woman probation instead of a possible two-year state jail term in her case of tampering with a witness and endangering a child.

Agent Provocateur sales boosted by US First Lady Michelle Obama
The Telegraph

Agent Provocateur saw sales jump by more than 12pc, helped by US First Lady Michelle Obama spending $50,000 (£31,794) in one shopping spree.

The First Lady – better known for shopping at more modestly-priced High Street stores – along with the Queen of Qatar, Sheikha Mozah, closed off part of Madison Avenue to spend time in the luxury lingerie shop.

Their purchases contributed to a market-spanking 12.5pc lift in sales.
Agent Provocateur, which is styled on vintage Hollywood glamour, sells handmade Calais lace corsets that sell for up to £900, which could ruffle the feathers of more than just President Barack Obama in an election year.

Gary Hogarth, Agent Provocateur's chief executive, refused to be drawn on the store's closely kept "secret client list". But he admitted the brand had attracted a high number of "unexpected famous names" – especially in the US, where sales have overtaken the UK.

Man accused in aggravated robbery fled to El Paso
By Eva Ruth Moravec - Express-News

A man accused of exchanging gunfire with people inside an apartment while he allegedly tried to rob them was arrested last week in El Paso, officials said.

Reese Pearis, 21, is being held in the El Paso County Jail without bail. He faces an aggravated robbery charge out of Bexar County and two charges — evading arrest and possession of marijuana — out of Guadalupe County, according to records.

According to the U.S. Marshals' Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Pearis was wanted in connection with a home invasion and robbery that took place at an apartment complex last Monday. Pearis and two others reportedly broke into an apartment, a news release states, and Pearis exchanged gunfire with the apartment's occupants. He fled the scene, and the task force learned Pearis may have headed to El Paso.

Man shot, killed on West Side
By Michelle Mondo - Express-News

An argument about a woman reportedly led to a shooting Sunday night on the West Side that left one man dead, officials said.

The shooting happened around 8:45 p.m. near the H-E-B grocery story and bus stop at the intersection of West Commerce and South Calaveras streets.

San Antonio police Lt. Lee Rakun said the man killed apparently had argued with another man over a woman but early in the investigation information wasn't available on what the disagreement was about or why it started.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A jury has convicted a New York prison inmate of falsely filing tax returns seeking $890 million in refunds.

Prosecutors say the man filed the bogus returns from 2006 to 2010 while at various state prisons. They say he even was issued a refund for $327,000 — but prison officials intercepted the check and returned it to the Internal Revenue Service, which led the investigation.

The man was convicted Thursday of 11 counts of filing false claims and one count of helping another inmate file bogus returns.

Newt is an idiot

Newt's statements about ignoring Judge's rulings or subpoenaing them to answer questions about their rulings, that he disagrees with, is exactly why this man should not be the Republican Presidential nominee or get within sight of the Oval Office.

Now the San Antonio-based judge has found himself the target of vitriolic attacks by a leading contender for the White House.

Suspect sought in aggravated robbery of elderly woman
By Jessica Kwong - Express-News

Police are seeking the public's help finding a suspect involved in the aggravated robbery of an elderly woman on the Northeast Side.

When Marolyn Charles, 80, parked her vehicle in a lot in the 3600 block of Hidden Drive around 5:15 p.m. on New Year's Day, she didn't see anyone around her. Then as she was walking up steps, a man in his early to mid-20s approached and tried to grab her handbag off her shoulder, police said.

The handbag did not come loose, so the suspect “intentionally pulled down ... making (Charles) fall forward to the ground,” a police report states. He fled on foot, and a short time later, her credit card was charged at a local store.

Jurors heard that Osorio was the passenger in a 2002 Camry that crossed the Brownsville & Matamoros

San Antonio police charged a man Monday with attempted capital murder after witnesses said they saw him pour gasoline on Richard Rodriguez Jr. then set him on fire.

Juan Jesus Robles, 37, was already in Bexar County jail on a different charge, officials said. Rodriguez, who turned 23 in the hospital, was burned over more than 85 percent of his body, and remains in critical condition, the arrest warrant affidavit said.

Rodriguez was carrying a gas can when he began fighting with three men he encountered at Guadalupe and South San Marcos streets the night of Jan. 7, an arrest warrant affidavit said. Those men told police they beat him up and left him on the ground, but then tried to stop Robles, who they saw rob Rodriguez, pour gas on him and set him on fire, the affidavit said.

Pot-based prescription drug looks for FDA ok
By Lisa Leff - Associated Press -

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A quarter-century after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first prescription drugs based on the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, additional medicines derived from or inspired by the cannabis plant itself could soon be making their way to pharmacy shelves, according to drug companies, small biotech firms and university scientists.

A British company, GW Pharma, is in advanced clinical trials for the world's first pharmaceutical developed from raw marijuana instead of synthetic equivalents_ a mouth spray it hopes to market in the U.S. as a treatment for cancer pain. And it hopes to see FDA approval by the end of 2013.

Sativex contains marijuana's two best known components—delta 9-THC and cannabidiol—and already has been approved in Canada, New Zealand and eight European countries for a different usage, relieving muscle spasms associated with multiple sclerosis.

Immigration authorities released man who went on to kill 3 in North Miami
In a year-old mystery, a felon freed after he could not be returned to Haiti killed three people. Was it random, or was he working with someone?

When burglar Kesler Dufrene became a twice-convicted felon in 2006, a Bradenton judge shipped him to prison for five years. And because of his convictions, an immigration judge ordered Dufrene deported to his native Haiti.

That never happened.

Instead, when Dufrene’s state prison term was up, Miami immigration authorities in October 2010 released him from custody. Two months later, North Miami police say, he slaughtered three people, including a 15-year-old girl in a murder case that remains as baffling today as it did the afternoon the bodies were discovered.

Agency: Iran shuts down shops selling Barbie dolls
-

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Police have closed down dozens of toy shops for selling Barbie dolls in Iran, part of a decades-long crackdown against "manifestations of Western culture," the semiofficial Mehr news agency reported Friday.

Barbie dolls are sold wearing swimsuits and miniskirts in a society where women must wear headscarves in public, and men and women are not allowed to swim together.

A ban on the sale of the Barbies, designed to look like young Western women, was imposed in the mid-1990s. In its latest report, Mehr quoted an unidentified police official as saying authorities confiscated the dolls from Tehran stores in a "new phase" of the campaign.

By Jessica Kwong - Express-News

A man was charged Friday in the stabbing death of a New Braunfels resident near Canyon Lake on Thursday evening.

Comal County Sheriff's Office deputies responding to a 911 call found Thomas Lee Kitto, 41, with multiple stab wounds at the Canyon Falls RV Park on FM 306. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A deputy spotted a vehicle leaving an address linked to a suspect, whose driver “committed several traffic violations and was driving suspiciously in circles around the subdivision,” a sheriff's office press release stated.

Nailing the diagnosis

The doctors nailed it!

Owwww!

Ill. man jokes after nail removed from his brain
By Don Babwin - Associated Press

OAK LAWN, Ill. (AP) — Dante Autullo thought his doctors were joking. The suburban Chicago man was sure he'd merely cut himself with a nail gun while building a shed. But they assured him the X-ray was real: A nail was lodged in the middle of his brain.

Autullo was recovering Friday after undergoing surgery at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where doctors removed the 3 1/4-inch nail. It had come within millimeters of the part of the brain that controls motor function.

"When they brought in the picture, I said to the doctor 'Is this a joke? Did you get that out of the doctors joke file?'" the 32-year-old recalled. "The doctor said 'No man, that's in your head.'"

Not every killer looks like one

Congratulations Madam DA Susan Reed on the guilty verdict and 45 year prison sentence.

Fatal DWI leads to 45-year term
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News

With Police Chief William McManus in the front row of the courtroom, District Attorney Susan Reed appealed to jurors Friday to demonstrate the community's disgust with drunken driving by sentencing Sandra Briggs to life in prison for causing the death of an officer.

The jurors didn't. But they came pretty close. They ordered Briggs, 59, to serve 45 years, and determined the Mazda Protégé she had attempted to drive home from the Bunratty Pub was used as a deadly weapon, meaning she will have to serve at least half of the sentence — and wait past her 81st birthday — before she can apply for parole.

The group deliberated about 41/2 hours.

Jeeze Louise!!

Gee, I went to law school at the University of Houston.

Their mascot is a cougar.

Should that be changed too?  Why did they have cougar on the list for the students to choose if this was so offensive to them?  This really teaches the students to have faith in a system where they are told they can vote and choose the new mascot, they do that and then get told their votes don't count.

This is just ridiculous it seems to me.

Utah school board says cougar mascot too offensive to women
CBSLas Vegas -

DRAPER, Utah (CBS Las Vegas) – One Utah school district believes a cougar mascot would be insensitive to women.

The Canyons School District overrode the students top choice of a cougar mascot for their high school that is to be completed in 2013.

Would-be Corner Canyon High School students chose the Cougars as their mascot — a name principal Mary Bailey said carries an ugly connotation that is disrespectful to women.

The rest of the story:

Scum along the bottom of the gene pool

He asked fior the Judge to give him the death penalty??

Probably because he knew what the rest of his life in prison held in store for him.

8 life sentences for repeat child predator
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News

A registered sex offender who has already served a seven-year sentence for molesting a young girl from his church congregation was sentenced again Thursday — this time for targeting a new victim.

David Fino, 57, asked the judge for the death penalty. He got eight life sentences, two of them stacked and without the possibility of parole.

A jury found him guilty Friday of super aggravated sexual assault of a child younger than 6, continuous sexual abuse of a child and six other first-degree felony molestation charges involving the same girl.
