Congratulations Jennifer Tharp or may I call you Madame D.A. next year?

Congratulations to Jennifer Tharp who is running unopposed to replace Geoff Barr who had announced he is stepping down next year as the Comal County Criminal District Attorney.

Jennifer will become Comal County's first woman District Attorney when she is sworn in in 2011.

Congratulations to all the candidates and good luck!

BTW Marc Katz, who is running as a Democrat for Lieutenant Governor is not related to me, but I love eating at Katz's Deli in Austin when I'm up there.

Monday marks filing deadline
-

A few, last-minute names were added to the March primary ballot in Comal County before Monday’s filing deadline, including a third candidate in the race for county judge.

Douglas Kirk, the owner of Morton Falls Publishing and editor of the Bulverde Standard, filed Monday to enter the Republican primary race for Comal County judge, according to county party chair Larry Nuckols.

His entry makes it a three-way battle to replace outgoing judge Danny Scheel, with Kirk, former county Tax Assessor-Collector Sherman Krause and local attorney Glen Peterson all vying to earn the Republican party’s nomination.

Scheel said he would not seek re-election after holding the county’s highest office since 1998.

Republican voters also will decide another three-way race for a chance to win a seat on commissioners court, Nuckols said Monday, with Henry White and Michael Mauer filing to run for County Commissioner Precinct 2.

White, Mauer and Scott Haag will be seeking to replace outgoing Commissioner Jay Millikin, who has served on Commissioners Court since 1998.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Wade Jacoby in the general election. Jacoby did not draw a primary opponent.

Mike Rust also filed Monday for office, seeking to become Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3. He will be unopposed in the Republican primary.

Incumbent Democrat Diana Guerrero did not choose to seek re-election. Instead, Rust will face Democrat Wade Arledge in the general election.

A number of local Republican candidates will run unopposed in the primaries, including County District Attorney hopeful Jennifer Tharp, County Clerk Joy Streater, District Clerk Kathy Faulker, County Treasurer Renee Couch, Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Jennifer Saunders, Court-at-Law Judge Randy Gray and district judges Jack Robison and Gary Steel.

Early voting in the primary election will begin on Feb. 16, followed by the election on March 2.

The winners from each party will face each other in the general election on Nov. 2.
