30-year sentence in slaying of doctor
His voice raising nearly to a yell, Tim McCloskey Jr. joined other family members Friday in pleading with jurors to have mercy on his father, who was convicted a day earlier of a murder that everyone agreed was profoundly senseless.
“They want to lock him up in a cage and throw the key away,” he said from the witness stand. “That's not what you do to people with mental illness. It's not all his fault.”
But the last day of Timothy McCloskey's emotional two-week trial also included tearful pleas from the family of Julie Abbott — a popular San Antonio physician who met the defendant only once but died at his hands after he developed an obsession with her.
