Homicides decline in S.A., Bexar County
Last year's homicide total in San Antonio dropped to 114, the lowest number since 2005 and a 17 percent decline from 2008 — a trend that mirrors the nation.
Ninety-nine of the homicides were classified as murder cases, 19 fewer than in 2008, according to San Antonio Express-News research and statistics from the Police Department.
The department's clearance rate for murder cases was 82 percent, a 5 percentage-point increase compared with 2008. The clearance rate is significant because it means an arrest was made or a suspect was identified.
