Oh dry up

If local counties are pondering whether to ban fireworks and sales of fireworks, can water rationing and restrictions be far behind?

If its flooding in Iowa, can water restrictions be far behind here?

Welcome to Summer in South Central Texas.

San Marcos to begin water restrictions
Express-News

San Marcos will enter Stage 1 of its drought response plan Monday.

The Edwards Aquifer dropped to 661.8 feet above mean sea level Thursday. The San Marcos ordinance allows the Water Utility Director to order Stage 1 restrictions when the aquifer falls to 650 feet, or ‘when conditions warrant such emergency declarations.'

‘The lack of rain and heavy aquifer usage has dropped aquifer levels to the point that makes it necessary to trigger Stage 1 of the city's watering restrictions,' said Water Utility Director Tom Taggart.

Stage 1 rules limit irrigation with sprinklers and car washing at home to one day a week, based on the last number of a home's street address.

Filling new decorative ponds and fountains is prohibited. Outdoor pools must be at least 25 percent covered when not in use.

Using hoses to clean driveways and sidewalks is prohibited, and restaurants may serve water only upon request.

Violations carry a fine of up to $250.
