Jurors returned a guilty verdict Thursday in the misdemeanor trial of a San Antonio driver involved in a drunken driving wreck four years ago in which her passenger was left for dead by paramedics.
Jurors deliberated about 2 1/2 hours before finding Sabrina Shaner guilty of driving while intoxicated. County Court-at-Law No. 8 Judge Liza Rodriguez sentenced Shaner to six months' probation. Prosecutors had also suggested probation, albeit a longer term.
“Obviously, there is no punishment the court can assess greater than what you will have to live with for the rest of your life,” Rodriguez said as Shaner, a nurse, quietly wept at the defense table.
