Mo' gang-banging

As Claude Rains said in Casablanca, "I'm shocked, shocked!" that SAPD believes this is a gang-related incident. Forty shots fired into the car following a car chase and ramming after a fight at a party?

Ya think?

Two killed in 'running gun battle' on NW Side

San Anonio Express-News

A fight at a party on the Northwest Side late Wednesday erupted into a gun battle and car chase that left two people dead and a man fighting for his life, police said.

San Antonio Police Lt. Michael King said more than 40 shots were fired out of a Ford Explorer during a “running gun battle” down Hillcrest Drive near Bandera Road as the SUV chased a Chevrolet Corsica, occupied by one woman and three men.

The short chase ended around 11 p.m. at Hillcrest Drive and NW 36th Street when the Explorer, occupied by at least two men, rammed the Corsica, causing it to crash. The men in the truck then approached the car and shot multiple times into the vehicle.

A man and the woman were declared dead at the scene, King said.

A third man was taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The fourth man suffered minor injuries. Identification and ages of the victims were not released but King said they looked to be in their late 20s or early 30s.

King said it appeared the shooters used a mix of weapons, possibly a high-caliber rifle and a handgun. Police were unsure exactly how many people were in the Explorer or if more than two people fired into the vehicle.

Immediately after the shooting, the police helicopter and more than 30 units were fanned out in the Northwest Side neighborhood trying to find the grey Explorer.

The conflict began at a house in the area where the two groups fought at a party. The four people in the Corsica left the party but were followed by the group in the Explorer.
The shooting likely was gang related, King said.
