CHS fire deemed intentional

-

Vandalism and a late night trash can fire at Canyon High School caused about $5,000 worth of damage Thursday night.

New Braunfels firefighters responded to an alarm at the high school just after 10 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from New Braunfels Fire Marshall Patrick O’Connell.

The fire near the school’s gym was extinguished quickly.

Shortly after, firefighters discovered vandalism inside the gym’s training room, said Canyon Independent School District spokeswoman Ashley Holt.

“There was stuff torn down off the walls in the training room and through the gym,” Holt said.

Investigators allege the fire was set intentionally and is still under investigation.

“It’s very unfortunate that people take the time to destroy property,” Holt said, “but we’ll find whoever did and we’ll move on.”

Anyone with information about the fire, call New Braunfels/Comal County Crime Stoppers at (830) 620-TIPS (8477).
