So three French-Moroccan nationals were found inside the Bexar County Courthouse at 2-3 a.m.

Ostensibly, one told police they were trying to get a better view of the city.

They are all apparently on the National Terrorist watch-list, which, of course, begs the question how did they get visas to come here?

They also apparently had photos of "soft-targets" i.e. infra-structures, malls, water treatment facilities and the like with them as well.

Good Work capturing them go out to the BCSO!!  Have fun FBI and Homeland Security with them.

FBI investigating break-in at county courthouse

The FBI and Bexar County officers are investigating a break-in at the Bexar County Courthouse downtown.

Bexar County spokesperson Laura Jesse confirmed that the FBI is investigating and that five suspects are in FBI custody. Five men are in custody. All the men are foreign nationals, she said.

Three were found inside the courthouse, two were found in a nearby recreational vehicle. Officials are trying to determine how the suspects got into the courthouse.

Fatal shooting, vehicle fire may be linked, police say

Three crime scenes – including a man found dead on arrival and another with a vehicle set on fire – erupted on the East Side Monday night, and police say they may be connected.

Several calls for shots fired came in around 7 p.m., and witnesses reported someone driving around in a dually pickup shooting from the back of the truck, San Antonio police Sgt. Anthony Hill said.

“It was just a roving event. Shots fired here, there, four to five calls all at once, all for shootings,” he said.

Man accused of sexual assault on girl, 12

A man was arrested Monday morning for allegedly sexual assaulting a 12-year-old girl multiple times.

Adam Sanchez, 24, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. and charged with one count of sexual assault of a child. Bail was set at $75,000.

San Antonio police were dispatched to the 9900 block of Wurzbach Road on Saturday for a sexual assault of a child, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

San Antonio's medical school on probation

San Antonio's medical school has been placed on probation by a national accrediting group, which cited 11 deficiencies in how medical students are taught and how faculty members are supervised.

Students and faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center were informed of the decision in an email early Monday.

In a letter dated Oct. 14, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education — which awards accreditation to U.S. and Canadian medical schools — notified Dr. William Henrich, president of the health science center, of its decision. The organization first told the health science center it was considering probation after a late January site visit by a six-member committee.

State gives Comal County jail high marks; official says new jail necessary

NEW BRAUNFELS — Comal County Sheriff Bob Holder has said population growth across the county is driving the need for more jail space.

Recently, the state commission that inspects jails gave the county’s facility a clean bill of health and found no deficiencies. However, Holder, his jail administrator Major John Bell and the commission’s executive director said glowing marks do not discount the need for a new jail.

Lawyers representing about 800 Occupy Wall Street protesters arrested in the past month demand that prosecutors drop the charges.

If not, they say they won't deal and will insist on going to trial - putting pressure on the already overloaded Manhattan criminal courts.

"I'd like to suggest to the DA's office the appropriate way to deal with these cases is outright dismissal," said defense lawyer Martin Stolar.

Cibolo man, 41, fatally shot by officers

A man fatally shot by police officers in Cibolo late Saturday after he threatened them with a firearm has been identified as Kennen Marksbury, 41, Lt. John Correu of the Schertz Police Department said Sunday.

A police officer with the Cibolo Police Department was dispatched to the Marksbury's home in the 100 block of Coral Fence Line shortly before 6:30 p.m. to respond to a suicidal call. The Cibolo police officer called another officer with Schertz police for back up, Correu said. When the police officers entered the residence, Marksbury threatened them with the gun and both fired their weapons, Correau said.

Marksbury was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. No further information is being released on the case, which has been handed over to the Texas Rangers, and both police officers will be placed on administrative leave during the course of the investigation, Correu said.

Body of elderly man found outside sports bar

An elderly man was found lying dead in the bed of a pickup parked in front of a South Side sports bar late Sunday, authorities said.

A few people inside Tee Time Sports Bar in the 1800 block of Roosevelt Avenue flagged down a passing police vehicle shortly after 11 p.m. to report the man was passed out in back of a truck, San Antonio police Sgt. Phillip Misek said.

It appeared the 63-year-old San Antonio man died of natural causes, as “there were no stab wounds or signs of foul play or trauma at all,” Misek said.

His companies, New Millennium Developers and Herrera Property & Investments, had acquired 77 properties in the McAllen area. He had booked at least $4 million in revenue.

But in reality, his success stemmed from the underground economy of drug trafficking that has flourished along the border but doesn’t figure in official reports on the gross domestic product or employment rates. He had bought the properties with drug money and used his companies as a shell to launder the $4 million.

Two charged with stealing Lawrence County bridge

State police have arrested two men accused of stealing a privately owned steel bridge from a secluded area in Lawrence County.

Police said that Benjamin Arthur Jones, 24, and Alexander William Jones, 25, used a torch to tear apart the Covert's Crossing Bridge late last month or early this month. The bridge had been in North Beaver Township since at least the early 1900s and was worth an estimated $100,000.

The Joneses, both from New Castle, were being held in the Lawrence County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court records. They face felony charges of criminal mischief, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.

Man killed in I-35 crash identified

Authorities have identified a man who died early Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle on the Northeast Side.

Juan Huerta Valenzuela, 33, was pronounced dead shortly before 3 a.m. at the site of the collision in the 7400 block of Interstate 35 North, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

San Antonio police said the victim had been arguing with another man in his SUV when they pulled over on the right traffic lane of I-35 near Eisenhauer Road. The man got out of the vehicle during the dispute and was hit by a sedan, which threw him in the air and fled the scene, traffic investigators said.

Police say cab driver was killed for $19

A young man charged late Friday night with capital murder shot a taxi driver in the head to rob him of $19, police said.

Witnesses told police Derrick Wayne Hunt Jr., 18, called for a cab using a phony name early Monday morning just before the fatal shooting with the intent of getting a ride without paying the fare.

Police said they believe that after picking up Hunt, Yellow Cab driver John Dexter, 49, stopped at an Exxon station at the 5000 block of North Foster Road to make a small purchase, leaving Hunt inside the van.

House Bill would criminalize satire of TSA

On September 22, 2011, H.R. 3011 was introduced in the House. It is entitled the “Transportation Security Administration Authorization Act of 2011” and it contains some curious language.

Two thirds of the way through the ponderous bill, in Sec. 295, we find the following:

Whoever, except with the written permission of the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Security (or the Director of the Federal Air Marshal Service for issues involving the Federal Air Marshal Service), knowingly uses the words ‘Transportation Security Administration’, ‘United States Transportation Security Administration’, ‘Federal Air Marshal Service’, ‘United States Federal Air Marshal Service’, ‘Federal Air Marshals’, the initials ‘T.S.A.’, ‘F.A.M.S.’, ‘F.A.M.’, or any colorable imitation of such words or initials, or the likeness of a Transportation Security Administration or Federal Air Marshal Service badge, logo, or insignia on any item of apparel, in connection with any advertisement, circular, book, pamphlet, software, or other publication, or with any play, motion picture, broadcast, telecast, or other production, in a matter that is reasonably calculated to convey the impression that the wearer of the item of apparel is acting pursuant to the legal authority of the Transportation Security Administration or Federal Air Marshal Service, or to convey the impression that such advertisement, circular, book, pamphlet, software, or other publication, or such play, motion picture, broadcast, telecast, or other production, is approved, endorsed, or authorized by the Transportation Security Administration or Federal Air Marshal Service .(Emphasis added.)

In other words, if you print a t-shirt or produce a publication with a TSA logo, the government may soon be able to arrest and prosecute you.

The language states that it would be illegal to “convey the impression” that you are representing the TSA, but this interpretation would likely be left to federal prosecutors.

In the past, satire was protected under the First Amendment, but it may soon be illegal to poke fun at the TSA or use its logo or even utter its name. Notice there is no exception in the above language for parody.

Detroit holds ex-con-only Jobs Fair

The city of Detroit has high unemployment, and no one has a tougher time finding work than an ex-con.

So Detroit recently held a job fair strictly for ex-cons. More than 200 jobs were available, and no one who had not been convicted of a felony was eligible to attend.

"That group (ex-convicts) has difficulties finding jobs," City Council President Charles Pugh said in an interview with Detroit Public Radio. "A lot of times, folks who come out (of jail) and get roadblock after roadblock and door closed, they give up and some of them re-commit crimes because they feel that's their only option."
