Man shot during botched drug deal
By Eva Ruth Moravec - Express-News

A man in his 30s was critically injured Sunday evening when he was shot during an apparent drug deal at a North Side fast-food restaurant, police said.

Around 6:45 p.m., the victim met at least two other people in a Popeyes restaurant parking lot at Loop 410 and Callaghan Road, San Antonio Police Sgt. Steven Grover said.

The suspected drug dealers got into the victim's car, Grover said, and robbed him of cash before firing at least two shots. The injured man, shot in the abdomen, got out of his car, and one of the suspects drove it away.

Afghanistan: Taliban Kill Six Americans

A young diplomat is among the dead after a Taliban suicide car bombing branded "despicable" by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

SkyNews.com -

Taliban militants have killed six Americans, including a young female diplomat, in the deadliest day in Afghanistan for the US in eight months.

Three members of the military, two US civilians and an Afghan doctor died after being hit by an explosion while travelling to donate books to a school in the south.

In a statement, Secretary of State John Kerry paid tribute to Anne Smedinghoff, a 25-year-old foreign service officer with the US State Department, who was killed in the "despicable attack" in the province of Zabul.

He said: "She tragically gave her young life working to give young Afghans the opportunity to have a better future."

SKorea: NKorea may be preparing to test missile
By Hyung-Jin Kim - Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A top South Korean national security official said Sunday that North Korea may be setting the stage for a missile test or another provocative act with its warning that it soon will be unable to guarantee diplomats' safety in Pyongyang. But he added that the North's clearest objective is to extract concessions from Washington and Seoul.

North Korea's warning last week followed weeks of war threats and other efforts to punish South Korea and the U.S. for ongoing joint military drills, and for their support of U.N. sanctions over Pyongyang's Feb. 12 nuclear test. Many nations are deciding what to do about the notice, which said their diplomats' safety in Pyongyang cannot be guaranteed beginning this Wednesday.

Tensions between Seoul and Pyongyang led South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff to announce Sunday that its chairman had put off a visit to Washington. The U.S. military said its top commander in South Korea had also canceled a trip to Washington. The South Korean defense minister said Thursday that North Korea had moved a missile with "considerable range" to its east coast, possibly to conduct a test launch.

Got Goat?

See I originally thought this was the start of a joke .....

"A goat walks into a bar in Montana and asks for a beer.  The bartender says that'll be $10.  The goat pays him and as the bartender is drawing the goat a beer he says; "You know we hardly ever see a goat in this bar"  The goat replies; "With prices like these, I'm not surprised!"

Bada Bing!

Bada Boom!

Goat that walked into Montana bar was taken from zoo
Associated Press -

BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — So the goat that walked into a Montana bar last weekend ... was stolen from a petting zoo.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort general manager Steve Luebeck says staffers knew the goat was missing but didn't realize it had been stolen until they saw a story in The Montana Standard on Wednesday reporting that a goat had been taken into a Butte bar early Sunday.

The pygmy goat, named "Shirley, was returned to the resort's petting zoo.

Toll road traffic far less than expected
By Vianna Davila - Express-News

Despite the enticement of the country's fastest speed limit, the Texas 130 toll road extension has drawn about half the number of drivers expected in its initial months of operation, a performance low enough that the private company that built it is facing a downgraded credit rating, according to Moody's Investor Service.

The Texas 130 toll road extension generated almost $2.6 million in toll revenue in the first six weeks that the road was opened, according to figures released Friday by the state.

At least 202,861 vehicles traveled on some portion of the road, between Interstate 10 in Seguin and Mustang Ridge south of Austin, in that same time period.

Teen shot in head during North Side attack
By Michelle Casady - Express-News

A 13-year-old boy was in critical condition at University Hospital on Friday night after police said he was shot in the back of the head during an attack at a North Side apartment complex.

Sgt. Greg Garvelli said the boy and a man in his late teens or early 20s, believed to be his stepbrother, were standing outside at the complex in the 500 block of Everest when someone approached from behind and hit the man in the head.

Garvelli said the man went down and the two attackers continued their assault, then the victim heard a single gunshot. He looked and saw the boy had been shot in the head and the attackers ran from the complex, heading north.

Samoa Air defends 'pay-as-you-weigh' pricing

Samoa Air CEO defends new policy, calling it the "concept of the future" and "the fairest way to travel".

Al Jazeera -

A Samoan airline that says it is the world's first carrier to charge passengers by their weight rather than per seat has defended the plan as the fairest way to fly.

The airline defended its decision by saying that in some cases flight costs ended up cheaper than conventional tickets.

"The industry has this concept that all people throughout the world are the same size," Samoa Air CEO Chris Langton told the Reuters news agency on Wednesday. "Aeroplanes always run on weight, irrespective of seats."

No charges in Canyon Lake shooting death

By Dalondo Moultrie New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung

NEW BRAUNFELS — A Canyon Lake man who shot and killed a bat-wielding intruder outside his and his neighbor’s homes earlier this year will not face prosecution, authorities said Monday.

Capt. Tommy Ward of Comal County Sheriff’s Office said no charges will be filed in the January incident that ended with the fatal shooting of Anthony Regan, 36, in the 100 block of Chapman Parkway. Ward said that around mid-March, detectives presented the case to the Comal County criminal district attorney’s office.

“They are not accepting it,” he said. “There is not sufficient evidence to show that a crime was committed.”

Easter Egg Hunt At Seattle Zoo Turns Violent

SEATTLE (AP) - One of usually peaceful springtime rituals of childhood – the Easter egg hunt – turned nasty at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.

Blame the moms.

Texas prosecutor steps into job after predecessor gunned down
Reuters -

(Reuters) - Brandi Fernandez slipped into the Kaufman County Courthouse in her first full day as interim district attorney on Tuesday, taking over a job that authorities believe got her predecessor and one of her colleagues killed.

Praised as a smart, tough litigator and a fierce advocate for child victims of crime, Fernandez declined to address reporters and remained under close protection inside the courthouse throughout the day. A police cruiser was parked outside her single-family home surrounded by trees on Monday and Tuesday.

Atop her agenda was investigating the targeted killings of former District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife on Saturday and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse on January 31.
