Officials are searching for a man who escaped from the Gillespie County Jail on Thursday when he overpowered a guard while being booked into the facility, according to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
Jose Rafael Guerra was arrested on a federal warrant for violations of his supervised release after officials talked Guerra out of a “barricaded situation,” according to Tom Smith, with the task force.
Guerra had a gun at the time.
He escaped from the jail about 7 p.m. Officials are searching the Fredericksburg area but Guerra also has ties to San Antonio, the release said.
Guerra was out on supervised release on a federal marijuana smuggling charge, Smith said.
