Jail Escape Attempt Fails Miserably
An escape attempt from the Alton, Texas, city jail failed miserably when one inmate crashed through the ceiling and into the police chief’s unoccupied office.
As of this writing, two inmates accused of escape are being held in the Hidalgo County Jail on bail totaling $105,000.
Police say that the two males, identified as 17-year-old Jesus Albert Suarez Chavez and 22-year-old Roman Orozco Martinez, tried to flee through the air conditioning system around 3:00 AM June 21, but a dispatcher monitoring surveillance footage spotted them.
Alton Police Chief Baldemar Flores told The Monitor, a newspaper in nearby McAllen, that the vent is small. The second inmate was trying to get into the vent, according to police.
Chavez and Martinez are in jail on charges of burglary of a vehicle, evading arrest, resisting arrest, assault on a public servant and making a terrorist threat.
