Ex-officer pleads no contest to embezzling
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News A former San Antonio police officer pleaded no contest Monday to stealing $104,000 from his colleagues over a four-year period.
Clifford Morgan, 46, embezzled the money while serving as treasurer of the San Antonio Police Officers Association from 2002 to 2006, according to court documents.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors have said they will ask state District Judge Lori Valenzuela for no more than 10 years in prison for the second-degree felony theft charge during Morgan's sentencing hearing next month.
Prosecutors will certainly seek prison time instead of probation, partly because of the position of trust he held, District Attorney Susan Reed said Monday. But how much prison time prosecutors seek might depend on whether he manages to pay any of the money back, she said.
