Whitson named 'Lawman of the Year'

NEW BRAUNFELS — Capt. Ed Whitson, of the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, was selected by Breakfast Lions Club as the Ed Murphy Memorial award winner Tuesday morning.
The honor goes to the club’s Lawman of the Year.

The award is named after a former CCSO detective who died after he crashed his helicopter into a power line in 1981 while trying to chase a robbery suspect in the Startzville area, Lion Ronald Zipp said.
