Will there be a new sherifff in town?
Dimmit County sheriff's resignation uncertain
By John MacCormack - Express-News
CARRIZO SPRINGS — The big question in town is whether Joel Gonzales, recently re-elected as sheriff of Dimmit County, will leave without a fuss. The answer might not come until Monday.
It all began three months ago when Gonzales was charged with the
misdemeanor offense of operating an unlicensed security company to
provide guard service to energy companies working in the Eagle Ford
Shale.
As part of a pre-trial diversion deal struck in October, Gonzales
agreed to step down on Dec. 10 from his $39,746-a-year job, effective at
year end. His possible resignation appears on Monday's agenda of the Dimmit County Commission meeting.
