You flunked

Kudos to the SAPD and to Susan Reed and the Bexar County DA's office in its proactive and innovative approach to enforcing the DWI laws and getting drunk drivers off of our streets, roads, and highways.

Thank you!

City expands DWI unit

The black Nissan sedan drifted from one edge of its lane to the other like an unsteady crayon unable to stay within the lines of a coloring book.

Subtle enough to pass unnoticed just hours earlier, the sluggish swerves were more conspicuous at 1 a.m. on a Thursday morning, prime time for the San Antonio Police Department's DWI unit.

Within minutes of being spotted near Babcock Road, the driver was leaning against his car — head bowed, hands dug into pockets — as Officer Domingo Flores, 37, questioned him about the open six-pack he'd found on the Nissan's passenger seat.

“We try to get them off the road before 2 a.m.” said Flores, who has been with the DWI unit for a year. “After 2 a.m. you never know what's going to happen out there.”
