Rash of burglaries reported in New Braunfels
-

New Braunfels saw a number of break-ins into cars and homes over the weekend.

From Friday to early Monday, eight different cars and four separate residences were burglarized, with the perpetrators stealing everything from plasma TVs to bicycles.

Lt. Mike Penshorn, spokesman for the New Braunfels Police Department, said that while it was a large number of break-ins, summer generally brings with it a spike in theft.

“This time of year, we traditionally have seen more burglaries,” he said.

The eight vehicle break-ins were scattered throughout the city, with speakers, car stereos and purses all being reported as stolen from various locations.

The four home burglaries included a 27-inch plasma TV and a Nintendo Wii stolen from a home on Dittlinger Street, and a bicycle was stolen from an open garage on Cardinal Manor Friday.

All of the cases currently are under investigation by the NBPD, Penshorn said.

He added that many of the cases, especially car break-ins, are “crimes of opportunity,” and he urged residents to be careful not to keep valuables in unattended vehicles or in unsecured locations.
