Hair today gone tomorrow

Apparently the jury saw it in a different light.

Jurors return guilty verdict in hair salon embezzlement case

Her sentence could be from probation to life in prison

Jurors returned two guilty verdicts Friday evening in the trial of a former hair salon manager accused of embezzling more than $1 million from her employers.

Kathleen Kavooras Pierce, 49, now faces anywhere from probation to life in prison for the theft and misapplication of fiduciary property convictions. State District Judge Ron Rangel is scheduled to decide her sentence in March.

The verdict came after more than five hours of deliberation and closing arguments in which defense attorney Tony Reyes described the locally owned Newby's Hair Styling Salon chain as a dying business that had been “dumped” on his client.
