Officer taken off life support dies
By Peter J. Holley - Express-NewsHe entered the police academy a shy and respectful cadet whose lifelong ambition had been to become a police officer.
Transformed by 33 weeks of intensive training, Sergio Antillon left a confident and assertive decision-maker, academy officials said, someone whose academic proficiency and high marks for customer service heralded a long and promising career.
But less than two months into his career, the rookie officer was critically injured in a wreck, moments after stopping to help a stranded motorist. Surrounded by relatives, friends and co-workers, Antillon died Friday at University Hospital after being taken off life support.
