Bexar Dems' woes mount
The Bexar County Democratic Party is on financial life-support, with party representatives staring at a huge debt to the county and an overdrawn operating account.
Making matters worse, county leaders are trying to prevent the party from receiving any state money until the party meets its obligations to the county.
The financial crisis came into focus this week when outgoing party Chairwoman Carla Vela alleged that Treasurer Dwayne Adams siphoned $202,000 from a party bank account used exclusively for primaries, and that he had taken an undetermined amount from the party's operating account.
