This sounds like a problematic case.
A long lapse in time withe the murder happening 16 years ago, witnesses statements only coming in three years after the incident, and it sounds like not much in the way of physical evidence.

Man on trial in 1993 killing, charged in 2 others

A San Antonio man charged with three killings in the 1990s went on trial Friday in one of them.
Jack Lee King, 40, is accused of slaying Johnny Perez, 23, who disappeared in 1993. His body has never been found.
Separately, King also is charged with the deaths of Ray Wechsler, 25, and Rosendo “Chubby” Torres Jr., 33. Their bodies were found half buried next to the Twin Lakes Mobile Home Community in South Bexar County on Christmas Day in 1995.
