Two possible reasons for this I think.
The driver was intoxicated and/or has no insurance.
No proof, just my gut reaction. I hope the injured fellow makes it and I hope they find the bastard who fled the scene.
Motorcyclist critically injured in hit-and-run

A man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Sunday night after his motorcycle was hit by a pickup that ran a red light.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Callaghan Road and Commerce Street on the city's far West Side.
San Antonio police officer Tommy Hamilton said the man was thrown from his bike upon impact, but his motorcycle was dragged nearly half a mile as the truck fled the scene.
