Hello??

How many more babies have to die because of their parent's sheer stupidity?

Texas baby left in hot car dies
By Robert Kolarik - Express-News

A 2-month-old whose mother left him in a hot car in Brazoria County has died, KHOU-TV is reporting.

The family was celebrating another child’s baptism on Sunday, and the mother left twice to run errands, taking the baby with her, the Houston station says. The second time she returned, she left the little boy inside the car in the 90-degree-plus heat.

The baby died less than 24 hours later, KHOU says.

“Right now, we’re basically trying to determine whether or not the mother was negligent by leaving her child in the car,” Brian Harper, an investigator for the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, told the station.

Brazen home invasion
By Guillermo Contreras - Express-News

The son of an accused money launderer on the Zetas cartel hit list was arrested Tuesday following a standoff with San Antonio police, after allegedly breaking into a Stone Oak home to assault his father's girlfriend.

The brazen incident in one of the city's affluent neighborhoods indicates a spillover of drug-cartel violence in Mexico making its way to San Antonio, a destination that authorities say has become a favorite of money launderers for the cartels.

Police said Antonio Peña Jr., 27, and two other men with him forced their way into a home in the gated Champions Ridge subdivision because they believed the woman was responsible for Peña's father, Antonio Peña Arguelles, 56, landing in jail.

A 7-year-old Brooklyn girl is miraculously alive and well today after plummeting three stories — thanks to a heroic neighbor who raced into action and broke her fall.

Cops said little Keyla McCree pushed out one of the accordion pieces that was holding a brand- new air conditioner in a bedroom window of her Coney Island apartment and squeezed through the tiny opening before she fell off.

“She’s fine,” said the autistic girl’s mom, Shaleema McCree.

“Not a scratch on her. The man caught her, thank God.

“It’s a miracle.”

Obama visiting donors in S.A. today
By John W. Gonzales - Express-News

It might be more about making money than making news, but President Barack Obama returns to San Antonio today for the first time in more than four years, with two scheduled campaign stops open only to contributors.

Obama is slated to address South Texas campaign donors at the Convention Center around 1 p.m. and join a small gathering of big-dollar backers at the Dominion home of attorney Mikal Watts.

Obama supporters estimate a turnout of about 1,000 at the Convention Center event and predict a local record for Democratic presidential campaign fundraising. Last month, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney set a local GOP record by hauling in $3.5 million for a luncheon address.

High-speed I-10 chase ends in death
By Robert Kolarik - Express-News

A driver was killed early today during a high-speed police chase on Interstate 10, KSAT-TV reported on its 5 a.m. newscast.

Officers were running a radar unit from the I-10 access road at West Avenue when a Mustang came roaring past eastbound on the interstate at more than 100 mph, the station said.

Two patrol cars gave pursuit, and just as they turned on their flashing lights, the driver in the Mustang attempted to make a quick exit at Frio Street, KSAT said. The first patrol car was too close to the exit to make the turn, and by the the time the second squad car arrived at the exit, the Mustang had slammed into a retaining wall.

WTH?!!

Mugging a 3-year old in his stroller?

That's pretty reprehensible even for a mugger.

But Momma, really?  A  $400 gold necklace on your 3 year old?

Thugs mug 3-year-old boy sitting in his stroller
By JAMIE SCHRAM and DOUGLAS MONTERO - NY Post

Things are getting so rough in the Big Apple that even toddlers are getting mugged.

A cruel thug ripped a $400 gold chain off the neck of a 3-year-old boy who was sitting in his stroller and being pushed by his mom in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn on Tuesday, law-enforcement sources said.

The crook and an accomplice attacked tot Harvey Hernandez in the lobby of his family’s Malcolm X Boulevard apartment building at 11:45 p.m. after following him, his teenage brother and mom Riyana Guerrero home from a Laundromat.

“I was screaming ‘Let go of my baby! Let go of my baby!’” the mom told The Post in Spanish yesterday.

Alaska town:  Feline mayor is the cat's pajamas
Associated Press -

TALKEETNA, Alaska (AP) — The mayor of a sleepy Alaska town is feline fine.

The part-Manx cat clawed his way onto the political scene of Talkeetna, Alaska, through a write-in campaign shortly after he was born 15 years ago.

KTUU-TV reported Friday that residents didn't like the mayoral candidates years ago, so they encouraged enough people to elect Stubbs as a write-in candidate. The town has nearly 900 residents.

And yet once again; another Drive-by shooting and murder

Does it matter whether the victim knew the other folks who killed him?

Nope, it doesn't.  Rest in Peace Luis Gonzales.

The scary part is if he didn't know them so this was absolutely random.

Luis Gonzales, 21, was riding with his cousin in a Chevrolet pickup when a car passed by them and opened fire about 9 p.m. Sunday, police said.

After the shots were fired, police said the cousin drove the truck back to the family's residence at the 200 block of Westminster Avenue and called 911.

The victim was hit in the arm and was listed in stable condition shortly after the attack, but he was pronounced dead about 11:30 p.m., officials with the medical examiner's office said.

Bexar County leads state in road-rage altercations
By John Tedesco - Express-News

On a sunny fall day last year, Randy Nelson was driving his 2-year-old son home from day care when he suddenly heard screeching tires and saw a white pickup careening toward them.

A thousand thoughts seemed to run through Nelson's mind. His foot went to the brake pedal. Then the truck smashed his small Saturn SL2 and stopped it cold.

Bystanders ran up to the wreckage. “I feel all right,” Nelson told them. “Just get my baby.”

By Shimon Prokupecz and Jonathan Dienst- NBC New York

An NYPD officer has been arrested in connection with a months-long firearms trafficking investigation after he allegedly stole guns from his precinct to be sold on the street and arranged drug buys while on duty, authorities said.

Nicholas Mina was arrested late Thursday and charged with conspiracy, grand larceny and sale of a firearm, among other crimes.  Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available. He and four co-conspirators who were also arrested were scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Authorities say the group allegedly trafficked at least 10 guns over a two-month period. The alleged ringleader of the group, Ivan Chavez, is accused of procuring firearms from various sources and removing serial numbers before selling them, prosecutors said.

New security fears as Heathrow checks miss terror suspects
The Guardian -

Terror suspects on the Home Office watch list are entering the UK in the runup to the Olympics without the necessary security checks, according to frontline officials at Heathrow.

One senior border officer told the Observer that inexperienced new recruits, deployed to shorten queues after complaints over lengthy waiting times, are repeatedly "missing" passengers of interest who should be referred to counterterrorism officers when they reach passport control.

The official said he was personally aware that three terror suspects – all of whose names are registered on the Home Office suspect index system – had been waved through by staff on his shifts since the start of July. Border officials should immediately notify counterterrorism police or MI5 if they suspect that "SX travellers" are attempting to enter the UK. Another colleague alleged that five suspects were "missed" in one day earlier this month.
