Suspect shot by cops is convicted in failed heist

It was a poorly executed heist in which everything seemed to go awry.

That's what prosecutors suggested Friday as the jury trial ended for Terry “T.J.” Newman, who authorities said was shot at twice in one night by assault rifle-wielding residents after a failed home invasion. He was then shot by police.

Jurors found Newman, 25, guilty of aggravated assault after about six hours of deliberation. Because he is alleged to be a repeat offender, he could face up to life in prison when state District Judge Angus McGinty determines his sentence next month.
