Hopefully it will put a dent into the laundering scheme.

However, we have to try to keep up as the schemes change.

Money launderers constantly evolving
By Jason Buch - Express-News

The schemes used by cartel financiers are constantly evolving as authorities find new money-laundering methods and take steps to shut them down.

When Congress passed the Patriot Act in 2001, it put in place reporting requirements for cash deposits that forced money launderers, including those for Mexican cartels, to change their tactics, said Jim Dowling, managing director of the Dowling Advisory Group and former Anti-Money Laundering Advisor to the White House Drug Policy Office.

Billions of dollars that was being deposited in U.S. banks started going to Mexico before slipping into the U.S. economy, Dowling said.

U.S. Secret Service agents leave Columbia over prostitution inquiry
The Washington Post -

The U.S. Secret Service is investigating allegations of misconduct by agents who had been sent to Cartagena, Colombia, to provide security for President Obama’s trip to a summit that began there Friday.

Edwin Donovan, an agency spokesman, said that an unspecified number of agents have been recalled and replaced with others, stressing that Obama’s security has not been compromised because of the change. Obama arrived in Cartagena on Friday afternoon for this weekend’s Summit of the Americas, a gathering of 33 of the hemisphere’s 35 leaders to discuss economic policy and trade.

Donovan declined to disclose details about the nature of the alleged misconduct. But Jon Adler, president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, said the accusations relate to at least one agent having involvement with prostitutes in Cartagena.

Students' pen pal was suspected molester
By Zeke MacCormack - Express-News

While he was jailed in Comal County on a child sexual molestation charge, Rickey R. Rowlett exchanged letters with elementary students in Houston — a correspondence arranged by their now-former teacher.

“It's very alarming,” District Attorney Jennifer Tharp said of the pen-pal relationship, discovered last month after a jury convicted Rowlett of repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl younger than 14 between 2008 and 2011.

Tharp traveled to Houston's Trinity Lutheran Church and School to alert staff and parents to the letters, in which she said some fourth-graders provided detailed personal information and expressed a desire to meet Rowlett once he was free.
