Farewell Jonathon, you will be missed!

He was truly a comedic genius.

Thank you for all the laughs.

Rest in Peace.

Groundbreaking improv comic Jonathan Winters dies
By John Rodgers - Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87.

The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime friend. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy. Facial contortions, sound effects, tall tales — all could be used in a matter of seconds to get a laugh.

Heightened awareness and some sort of action is needed.

There's quite a number of these folks running around.

'Voices' tell mentally troubled man to kill DA Reed
By Ana Ley - Express-News

A mentally unstable Army veteran who told officials he was hearing voices telling him to kill Bexar County District Attorney Susan Reed with explosives was behind bars Friday morning.

John Pratt, 43, told sheriff's deputies he began feeling paranoid April 6 and believed he was being followed by the police everywhere he went, an arrest warrant affidavit says.

He said he went to the county jail to turn himself in, but was told no warrant had been issued for his arrest.

Man goes into cardiac arrest, dies after struggle with police
By Michele Casady - Express-News

A man who was stopped by police Friday night and handcuffed after running across several lanes of traffic on a Southwest Side highway apparently went into cardiac arrest and died shortly after at a local hospital, officials said.

Officer Matthew Porter, spokesman for San Antonio police, said the man, in his mid-30s, was driving in the area of Cupples Road and U.S. Highway 90 with his girlfriend when they got into an argument that eventually led to the car crashing into a fence.

Porter said the two got out of the car and continued arguing until the man ran away and the woman got in the driver's seat. People in the area stopped her and called police, he said.

Salt of the Earth

So glad to see that other folks have "nanny-state" folks as well.

But now mayor Bloomberg will probably want salt shakers removed in New York City.

WAIT!!  Will this also include Margaritas too!

Oh the Humanity!

Mexico City tries to shake residents out of salt dependency

Capital removes salt shakers from tables of city's eateries to lower average salt intake, which is double recommended level
 The Guardian -

With governments all over the world trying to get people to eat less salt, the local authorities in Mexico City are trying a particularly direct method – removing shakers from tables.

The Less Salt, More Health campaign has the backing of the capital's restaurant owners association and sets out to encourage diners to stop and think about their salt intake by making them have to ask for it.

"We want to raise awareness of the damage that we do to ourselves when we put salt on our dishes without even tasting the food first," the capital's health minister, Armando Ahued, said at the campaign launch last week.

Ahued said approximately 31% of Mexicans have high blood pressure, and average salt intake in the country was about 11g per day. This is around double the level recommended by the World Health Organisation for healthy adults, and far higher than the diets imposed on people with hypertension – many of whom go undiagnosed in Mexico because of a general paucity of preventative medical care.

But, the New Braunfels resident wants to now put all the negativity surrounding him in the past and move on with the here and now.

“It’s just a mistake I made when I was young,” Davis said Thursday. “I know I’m not the only person in the world that has made a mistake. I know I’m not the only person that’s going to make a mistake.

Councilman concerned about possible high-rise
By Neal Morton - Express-News

City Councilman Diego Bernal said Monday that while he welcomes development in his downtown district, he has reservations about the 23-story hotel and time-share tower that a Dallas-based developer wants to stack on top of the historic Joske's building.

“I'm not sure I like the idea,” Bernal said. “I didn't expect it to be that tall. The folks who are worried about it have a right to be. It's one of those things where you're not sure whether to be excited or horrified.”

Even before details of the project became public late last month, Historic Design and Review Commission members and local preservationists criticized the idea of building the high-rise at Alamo and Commerce streets and worried about its potential effect on the neighboring Alamo Plaza.

Four women wanted in alleged sex assault of 19-year-old man in downtown Toronto

By Vidya Kauri - National Post

Toronto police are looking for four female suspects who they say allegedly sexually assaulted a 19-year-old man.

The incident happened during the early morning hours of Sunday, March 31, after the man met the four women at a nightclub near King Street and University Avenue. The man left the club with the women who offered to drive him home, according to a written statement from Toronto police.

“The complainant was instead driven to a parking lot in the area of Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue where he was sexually assaulted by all four suspects,” said the statement.

After the suspects let go of the man, they were seen leaving the area in a vehicle that resembled a silver Honda SUV.

Detective Constable Thomas Ueberholz with the Toronto Police Sex Crimes Unit said that his division does get complaints of sexual assaults on males by females.

Worshiping at the feet of the false idol of Political Correctness

Well, what else are they if "they" are here illegally?

How does it discriminate?

Shall we re-name criminals?  You know its hurtful to call someone a criminal, too.

I don't know, how about ex-law?  or supra-law? you know, as above the law?  or just plain legally-challenged?

Yeah! I like the sound of that.  He or she is legally-challenged, implying a sort of illness, then we can pay them SSDI too.

The word 'illegal' to describe immigrants may be slowly making an exit

For some time, the use of “illegal” to describe people in the United States without proper documentation has been a highly contentious debate, even in journalism.

Since at least the 1980s, activists have made the case that the word is hateful, discriminatory and aimed not at all immigrants in the country illegally, but specifically Latino ones.

Activists have described “illegal” as racially potent and stinging with prejudice, and the most scorn has been saved for the dehumanizing noun, “illegals.”

Afghanistan: Taliban Kill Six Americans

A young diplomat is among the dead after a Taliban suicide car bombing branded "despicable" by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

SkyNews.com -

Taliban militants have killed six Americans, including a young female diplomat, in the deadliest day in Afghanistan for the US in eight months.

Three members of the military, two US civilians and an Afghan doctor died after being hit by an explosion while travelling to donate books to a school in the south.

In a statement, Secretary of State John Kerry paid tribute to Anne Smedinghoff, a 25-year-old foreign service officer with the US State Department, who was killed in the "despicable attack" in the province of Zabul.

He said: "She tragically gave her young life working to give young Afghans the opportunity to have a better future."
