Hungarian MP calls for Jewish ‘threat’ list
A call by a far-right Hungarian MP for a list to be drawn up of Jewish politicians and government members who pose a “threat to national security” has caused outrage among both Hungary’s estimated 80,000-strong Jewish community and liberal politicians.

Marton Gyongyosi, a leading MP of Jobbik, Hungary’s radical rightwing party, called for the list in the Budapest parliament on Monday, saying that it was justified by the increased tensions following the latest conflict between Gaza and Israel.

Sex with 12-year-old student gets teacher 10 years in prison
By Craig Kapitan - Express-News

A longtime elementary school teacher whose repeated sexual encounters with a 12-year-old student came to light following a high-speed chase in which she let the boy drive her SUV was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison.

Lucinda Rodriguez Caldwell, 41, choked back sobs as she was placed in handcuffs after asking state District Judge Lori Valenzuela for probation.

Although the judge denied the request, she did retain jurisdiction of the case, leaving open the possibility that Caldwell could be released from prison on shock probation sometime in the next six months.

Castilleja trial:  Woman recalls alleged abuse
By Dalondo Moultrie New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung

NEW BRAUNFELS — A woman said through tears on the witness stand Tuesday that a New Braunfels man sexually abused her about twice a month from the time she was 8 until she was 13 or 14 years old.

The woman, now 24, told a Comal County jury that she suffered in silence for years, but once when she was older she did threaten to expose Armando Castilleja, 53, of New Braunfels.

“I told him... I’ll go to the police,” said the woman, whose name the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung is withholding due to the nature of the allegations. “He said there were two sides. I said, ‘How could there be two sides? I was young.’ I said, ‘You could go to jail.’ ”

Mexican beauty queen killed in shootout

CULIACAN, Mexico (AP) — A 20-year-old state beauty queen died in a gun battle between soldiers and the alleged gang of drug traffickers she was traveling with in a scene befitting the hit movie "Miss Bala," or "Miss Bullet," about Mexico's not uncommon ties between narcos and beautiful pageant contestants.

The body of Maria Susana Flores Gamez was found Saturday lying near an assault rifle on a rural road in a mountainous area of the drug-plagued state of Sinaloa, the chief state prosecutor said Monday. It was unclear if she had used the weapon.

"She was with the gang of criminals, but we cannot say whether she participated in the shootout," state prosecutor Marco Antonio Higuera said. "That's what we're going to have to investigate."

Teach your children well!

Pretty brazen of them isn't it?

Cheating Scandal:  Feds say teachers hired stand-in to take their certification tests
It was a brazen and surprisingly long-lived scheme, authorities said, to help aspiring public school teachers cheat on the tests they must pass to prove they are qualified to lead their classrooms.

For 15 years, teachers in three Southern states paid Clarence Mumford Sr. — himself a longtime educator — to send someone else to take the tests in their place, authorities said. Each time, Mumford received a fee of between $1,500 and $3,000 to send one of his test ringers with fake identification to the Praxis exam. In return, his customers got a passing grade and began their careers as cheaters, according to federal prosecutors in Memphis.

Authorities say the scheme affected hundreds — if not thousands — of public school students who ended up being taught by unqualified instructors.

California man jailed four days for recording cops
By Carlos Miller - Infowars

A California man was jailed for four days for attempting to record police officers on a public street.

Daniel J. Saulmon was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer but the video shows he was standing well out the way of a traffic stop and was only arrested when he failed to produce identification to an approaching officer.

And there is no law in California that requires citizens to produce identification. And even if there was, it would require the officer to have a reasonable suspicion that he was committing a crime.

Brash boxer 'Macho' Camacho dies in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Hector "Macho" Camacho was a brash fighter with a mean jab and an aggressive style, launching himself furiously against some of the biggest names in boxing. And his bad-boy persona was not entirely an act, with a history of legal scrapes that began in his teens and continued throughout his life.

Camacho died Saturday in the Puerto Rican town where he was born, a little more than three days after at least one gunman crept up to the car in a darkened parking lot and opened fire on the boxer and a friend.

No arrests and have been made, and authorities have not revealed many details beyond the facts that police found cocaine in the car and that the boxer and his friend, who was killed at the scene, had no idea the attack was coming. "Apparently, this was a surprise," said Alex Diaz, a police spokesman.

Does the Editorial Board of the New York Times not read and think about what they take a stand on?

The Privilege to Speak
The New York Times Co. wants a monopoly on the Constitution.
A corporate division has once again exercised its First Amendment rights to argue that corporations don't have First Amendment rights. This time, however, the New York Times Co. claims to have discovered a loophole that protects its First Amendment rights.

In an editorial today, the Times Co.'s eponymous flagship newspaper answers Justice Samuel Alito, who in a terrific speech last week at the Federalist Society in Washington penetratingly ("speciously," according to the Times) defended the court's 2010 ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. That 5-4 ruling struck down portions of two laws that imposed government censorship on political speech by corporations and unions (though they made an exception for "media corporations" such as the New York Times Co. and News Corp., which publishes The Wall Street Journal and this website).

Alito elaborated an argument this column made in January 2010, just after he and his colleagues handed down Citizens United. He noted that many landmark free-speech decisions vindicated the rights of corporations, including two that involved the New York Times Co. Here's the company's response:
In New York Times v. Sullivan, in which the First Amendment was used to rein in the law of libel, the Supreme Court focused on the "profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open." It made almost no mention of the fact that The Times was a corporation. Nor were the free speech rights of a corporation any part of the ruling in the Pentagon Papers case.
Really? The free speech rights of a corporation weren't "any part" of a case styled New York Times Co. v. United States?

Lower court ruling on river management fee stands after Supreme Court review; attorney says city likely owes outfitters $550,000

By Greg Bowen New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung

NEW BRAUNFELS — The Supreme Court of Texas has decided not to hear the City of New Braunfels’ appeal of a lower court’s ruling on a 2007 lawsuit over the city’s river management fee, or “tube tax.”

Austin attorney Jim Ewbank — who represents river outfitters Rockin’ R River Rides, Texas Tubes and Corner Tubes, who filed the suit — said the case now goes back to Comal County courts to determine how much in collected fees the city will have to reimburse to the outfitters.

Tubing outfitters collect the $1.25 tube tax from customers and then remit those fees to the city, which uses them to offset the cost of policing and cleaning the rivers.

Ewbank said the Supreme Court, in denying on Friday the city’s petition seeking review of the case, effectively upheld a lower court’s decision “that the river management fee was invalid and ... that the three outfitters were entitled to two years of fees plus attorney’s fees.”

Biden calls Obama 'Homeboy'The Weekly Standard

Visiting victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey today, Vice President Joe Biden told them not to worry, saying, "you’ve got a homeboy in the deal who gets it." Biden was referring to President Barack Obama.
Here are Biden's remarks, via the pool report:
"If you’re not an Easterner it’s hard to understand that the ocean to us is the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park and everything else combined. It is a gigantic part of not only our economy but who we are. It’s a gigantic part of the culture as well.

And every time the rest of the country is in real trouble, New Jersey and Delaware and New York and Connecticut etcetera we respond, we respond. And it’s going to be a heavy lift. These are difficult times in terms of budgets but the president has made it clear that we are going to do everything we can to make sure that the Corps is fully funded, that FEMA has their needs and that all the programs that exist under the auspices of the federal government not only continue to exist but are funded so that we can make sure that this area of the country is fully fully fully restored.

So as the president said when he was up here with the governor, we’re not going anywhere. We’re not not going anywhere. And you’ve got a homeboy in the deal who gets it."

So will doctors who accept Medicare, people who get unemployment aid, defense contractors, air traffic controllers, national park rangers and companies that do research and development.

The package of tax increases and spending cuts known as the "fiscal cliff" takes effect in January unless Congress passes a budget deal by then. The economy would be hit so hard that it would likely sink into recession in the first half of 2013, economists say.

Right name, right date of birth, and wrong person nevertheless

More proof of demographic changes in Texas and the United States.

Jose Gabriel Hernandez is apparently the new John Smith.

I'm glad it got all straightened out.

S.A. worker mistakenly jailed
By Susan Carroll - Express-News

Authorities recently detained the wrong man on a sexual assault warrant, arresting a San Antonio construction worker with the common name of Jose Hernandez — despite an apparent 6-inch height difference with the actual suspect, records show.

Jose Gabriel Hernandez, who stands 6 feet 1 inches and weighs 230 pounds, was arrested at his home Oct. 22 by Bexar County sheriff's deputies, who had a warrant out of Harris County for another Jose Hernandez with the same date of birth. But the wanted man stood only 5 feet 7 and weighed about 190 pounds, according to court records.

“It's pretty obvious it's not me,” said Hernandez, 49.

High-speed toll road has first fatality
By Vianna Davila - Express-News

A Lockhart woman was killed on the Texas 130 toll road in what is the first fatality since the corridor's new segment opened last month.

Though the Sunday afternoon crash immediately revived questions about the road's 85 mph speed limit, the fastest in the country, investigators have not yet determined if speed was a factor.

The new Texas 130 segment, a band of asphalt cutting through the open land of Central Texas, stretches 41 miles from south Austin to Interstate 10 in Seguin, passing west of Lockhart.

Tattoo leads to arrest

It's like waving a red flag at a bull.

Nothing good can come out of this.

<=== Not the tattoo in this matter.

Suspected gang member arrested over tattoo
UPI.com -

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Police in Minnesota said a suspected gang member was arrested over tattoo of a pig in a police uniform being shot.

Hennepin County prosecutors said Antonio Jenkins Jr. posted a picture on Facebook of a tattoo on his right bicep depicting a pig in the uniform of Minneapolis police Officer Jeffrey Seidel being shot through the head by a person, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Friday.

Jenkins, a suspected member of the Bloods street gang currently on probation for armed robbery, was arrested Thursday and charged with making a terroristic threat for the benefit of a gang.

You probably thought they were stolen but ignored that because it was too good a deal to pass up and now you're complaining to the police?

Emerito Pujol, 74, was arrested Saturday at Epcot.
Orlando Sentinel -

A 74-year-old Miami man who was trying to avoid paying nearly $100 to get into Epcot, was arrested after he impersonated a Federal officer.

Emerito Pujol flashed a fake badge at an Epcot employee as he passed through the turnstiles at the park around noon on Saturday. The employee challenged him and asked to see the badge again. He claimed he was an undercover officer who was looking for someone, according to an arrest report.

When a security guard approached him, Pujol again claimed he was "in service" and was "guarding someone important," the report states.

A pretty grim and brutal, but effective way to commit suicide.

Police: Man killed by train in apparent suicide
By Nolan Hicks - Express-News

A man was struck and killed by a freight train early Saturday in an apparent suicide on the East Side.

The Union Pacific train's crew told police that the unidentified man was standing on the track as the train approached about 1:30 a.m.

Police said the crew sounded the horn, but instead of getting out of the way the man laid his head on the track.

The crew couldn't stop in time, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
